Drawing and Its Peripheries

Drawing and Its Peripheries is an exploration of the notion of “contemporary drawing,” an exhibition of about thirty works that include sublimely crafted drawings in the historical tradition as well as works that challenge, expand, or defy assumptions of what drawing can be.

The show presents a means for thinking about what the fundamental art of “drawing” can be/mean/do, and how it is integrated into contemporary art practices.

Drawing & Its Peripheries is a traveling exhibit of selected student artwork from the School of Visual Art at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, and the Department of Art & Design at Augusta University, Augusta, GA.  The show will open in Augusta at the Ann & Ellis Johnson Gallery at the Jessye Norman School of the Arts and will then travel to the Armory Gallery at Virginia Tech in Blackburg, VA.  The co-curators and jurors of the competitive-acceptance show are Kristin Casaletto of Augusta University and Amelia Salisbury of Virginia Tech, both working artists themselves with an interest in drawing.

On view in Augusta:  Sept. 27 – Oct. 20, 2017
